DSP! DSP?

So I was reading about may car's stereo today and in the manual it says - you have a DSP enabled radio and you can change the sound by selecting different modes...
I have tried selecting one of the three pre-set modes - Concert Hall, Jazzclub or Church but i did not hear any difference in sound. I also tried setting my own settings - same result. Tried both FM Radio and CD... am i doing something wrong? or is DSP busted?
Now, i do have an aftermarket Satellite Radio unit installed in the car ( A gift from the previous owner i guess) but it works over FM, so i don't think it should interfere with the DSP module, or should it?
Would be nice to be able to use the radio with its full potential...

i would suspect the DSP is being bypassed with the aftermarket radio. With that said I cannot find any benefit of DSP. I haven't messed with the custom DSP settings, but yeah you're not missing anything.

IMHO

so, if you have the DSP verbiage on the screen or the MID, you have the DSP... one of the settings that easily recognizable, is the ECHO - see if you can set it up to maximum "room" and test it... the sat radio broadcasts over FM, picked up by stock radio and piped through the car's system... no interference with the DSP... also, check the connections in the trunk, make sure that nothing is unplugged, dislodged or otherwise disturbed...

Something is definitely unplugged or disconnected because if DSP was hooked up and you selected the CHURCH/CATHEDRAL setting...the sound you hear is similar to Gregorian Monks singing in a huge sanctuary with the sound echoing off all the hard surfaces.

The fact that you have aftermarket components hooked up to your audio system...should be another clue that the original set-up has been compromised...especially when there appears to be no change when buttons are selected that should make changes to the audio system.

I am not sure how Gregorian Monks sound, but i definitely get a bit of an echo or a feeling like i am in a church or something when the radio is playing, however i do not hear any change in sound when i switch settings... as for the aftermarket radio, the only two wires i have connected to it - is a power cable and an antenna...
I guess i will be taking the dash apart to see if there is anything unplugged there... i looked for unplugged cables in the trunk but all seemed to be in order...

Presenting....Gregorian monks with their obvious "echo-sound" that is reminiscent of the Cathedral/Church DSP setting...

Ha ha ha
Thanks for the education!!! Learn something new everyday!
And yes it seams that i get that echo sound, but i think it only works on some radio stations and i definitely can't change the settings... Once the weather gets better i will take apart my dashboard to see what's going on...
