Newbie and now waiting for it to arrive...

So I made the plunge and got a 2001 X5 3.0. It is being shipped to me (it is in Jersey, me in Idaho). But getting antsy for it to come (still waiting for it to be picked up!). Car has 24,000 miles, is Pearl Beige with leather. Any suggestions on where to get a good price on a BMW OEM hitch would be great too. Looking forward to lots of information from this forum.

Thanks!
Joe

Welcome, and enjoy your new X5. Shop around online because you find some great deals on OEM equipment. The prices will almost always beat your local dealer. try bmw-parts-dealer.com or circlebmw.com. I found them on the web too, and ordered many parts from them.

You guys are great. I'll check out the web sites you mentioned. I have a ski boat to pull (nothing huge, just 17 foot Four Winns) so I want that good OEM one. I'll check with Rob too.

I've got a 20 ft. Four Winns too, and even though I know the X5 is rated to pull 6000lbs. w/the 4.4, I still couldn't bear to do it (especially with those skinny little 19" tires on the sport pkg. I bought an '05 Ford F350 w/the 6.0 diesel for that heavy work. My two BMW's get to live a pampered life!

Welcome, I have a 01' in Pearl Beige too. It's such a great color for disguising dirt that I only wash it occasionally out of habit

eeek. My boat is barely 3,000 lbs...and it is about a 15 minute drive to the launch from my house. So I hope my 3.0 is ok with this. I have electric trailer brakes and will put the brake controller into the X5. I don't have room to park a truck in my neighborhood so it is either a truck or an SUV. I hate driving a truck for daily driving and our boating season is about 4 or 5 months if you are lucky. Great hauler you have for towing tho!
