Can you adjust screen brightness or contrast through coding?

I know it's a long shot but I thought I'd ask.

I purchased a navtool and backup camera for a friend and installed it on his E38 with OEM 16:9 screen and the image is very dim.

On my old gen. Navtool it had a brightness button and I was all set.
But the new Gen. Have a chip for auto brightness and no adjustments on the box. So I called them up and they said it was the cheap camera I'm using. I said I bench tested it before install and it displayed a nice bright clean signal on my HP Studio monitor.
He said yeah that doesn't matter its still your camera.....then went on say the old units would wash everything out and customers complained about the colors being off so we switched to this new chip in our 2.0 ver. module that's auto adjusting.
I asked if he guaranteed it would work if I bought a different camera and he said no that I should first try another video source like a dvd player or Ipod and see how the image appears.
Well I hooked just up an Ipod touch and an Xbox and both images are still not very bright or usable.

Any suggestions? Can I modify any software or code anything to fix it?
I have a custom Alpina splash screen and night time mode Nav software on my E38. Someone here wrote when it was still x5world. Could the brightness be adjusted this way?

I wish that rheostat for the interior lighting would just go higher...lol

Any suggestions guys?
