Air Suspension pump can be repaired
I have good news to all the members suffering with an inactive suspension message and they know there is not a leak in the system. In my case the problem was that the air pump works, but delivered not the correct pressure to the accumulator in the specified time.
I have search the web and found that the Air Pump used by BMW is similar to the units used by Land Rover, Audi, VW and Mercedes as they are all manufactured by WABCO. The only difference is that each model and car manufacturer use different valves, sensors and cradles. The main pump is the same for all.. The main problem is that the inside compressor ring of the compressor piston can not take heat and a lot of pump activity, before it becomes 'lazy'. The fact is that the Dealership and other industries only sells complete units but there is no-one in the business selling the individual parts of the compressor, not even Wabco. There is only one person in the World with a solution and he is in the UK. he manufactures the replacement part (compressor ring) and sells it on eBay from time to time. He sold more than 650 of these units and is well known on the Audi form. Interested members can read the following articles: Allroad Air Suspension Compressor strip & repair and http://allroadfaq.com/downloads/howt...20How%20To.pdf I have just installed my new ring, purchased from him and so far it works and saved me a lot of money, compared to a full unit. Hopefully this reconditioned unit will last longer than a week, Only time will tell. |
