Shopping for 03(ish) 4.4i With Sport Package
Hi all, yes yet another Noobie thread. I have read quite a bit but some discussion is always good too. Looking to add to our fleet and X5 V8 with the sports package is the way we want to go.
Been watching the market for a while and have looked at few different ones. Most recent one today was an '03 with 79K miles, Sports, Nav & Winter packages. Asking $12,900. From my research this seems like an OK deal but KBB, edmunds, NADA etc are only so much use. Any thoughts on this price. It comes with a spare set of rims on damn-near-new winter tires.
Drove it today and there was a harsh vibration on the RF. I took a peek underneath and the R/H CV was damaged so that is getting replaced at the least. One thing I noticed while under there was a lot of surface rust on the suspension components. Its a midwest car so perhaps to be expected, but this is the first time ive seen this in any of the X5's ive looked at. Is this a cause for concern?
Most concerning thing was a potential delay in moving off when cold. My wife drove it at first, I was outside the vehicle and it revved like it was in neutral. Once and once only. I'm not sure if she didn't quite get it into D or not, but that seems kinda unlikely. Does this sound like a potential issue? Searching hasn't really pulled up anything conclusive in this regard. There's no way I'll touch this thing unless I can verify that the transmission is good from cold though.
Taking a second look tomorrow at which stage I will take a closer look myself and perhaps book a PPI with and indy, if I can find one.
Cooling pipes and brackets seem fresh, along with the fan belt, so that's good. Nav screen will need the LCD replaced as it has blemishes, disk is in there.
Anyway, I welcome any feedback on the above topics as well as any general X5 newbie info that comes to mind. I've been reading my way through FAQ's at various forums and I'm somewhat familiar with e38 and e34 so that helps a little.
