I'd check and see if a correct bleeding procedure fixes the problem (as outlined above)...if that doesn't fix it...then look at the T-stat.

Good luck.

its green stuff they used in the car so I'm going back there first thing in the morning and make them flush the coolant system out

Thermostat is dead (i.e. stuck open). Purchase new thermostat. Install new thermostat. Replace any other broken cooling system components. Do a proper flush/bleed. Do a little dance. Drive.

Yes and no. The car won't get to the right temp, so bad for the car.

Tstat takes an hour and is a DIY w/right tools. Get part from ecs. Behr or whaler. No uro, mtc or the crap aluminum one. Did mine on my e46 I. The middle of January in my driveway.

Do you have a check engine light on?

^I agree with you about aluminum thermostat housings with the exception of the Zionsville unit. But, at $500, few can justify it.

Not sure you could blame the indy, maybe it was already filled with crap, and they just topped off with water?

And the thermostat failed either way, none of this coolant bleed nonsense would cause the car to run cooler.

Good point. But, if you brought the car in hot, and there was not time for the engine to cool, they couldn't open it to check the coolant.
