TerminatorX5 - yes I have access to the WDS wiring diagrams and have been going through the circuits. Following the wiring diagrams I make the car go to sleep with:
  • unplug fuse 43
  • unplug IKE behind instrument cluster - it is fed by fuse 43
  • unplug connector X322 in the right rear package shelf. This connector is fed from pin 3 in the IKE connector
Pin 3 in the X322 connector goes to the Navigation Computer and I don't have one so I am at a dead end right now.

I think I will now go to other items that feed X322. These include fuses 72 and 75 so I will start with them.

I have finally solved my X5 "sleep" problem. I did not mean to hijack this thread, but maybe this solution will help someone else with the same battery drain problem I had.

My problem begins with Fuse 74 which provides constant power to the telephony equipment on the X5. My truck does not have any telephony equipment so I did not think was the source of the "sleep" problem, but when I removed Fuse 74, the truck went to sleep (after 16 minutes).

One of the circuits from Fuse 74 goes to the telephone cradle in the center console - the circuit goes through a connector called X4545 which is located in the center console under the emergency brake. This location is also under the cup holder and gets wet if there is a big spill inside the cup holder. My problem was that this connector had some gunk on it from a spill and was causing some type of cross-connection that did not allow the clock display on the MID to turn off.

Once I cleaned this connector the problem was solved.

So the symptoms of the "sleep" problem was that the clock remained on the MID display and this meant the truck could not go "sleep". Once the connector X4545 was cleaned the clock turned off that the problem was solved.

Hope this helps someone in the X5 community.

The car simply refuses to start off its own battery, every morning. Once its jump-started (usually very easily) give it a few mins and its fine for the day, unless you leave a door open or interior light on etc the. It dies within 5 mins.

We are currently having to charge the battery every night, to ensure its good. At first it would go a few days but now its every night without fail. I've been advised that it has some kind of safe mode which kicks in if under a certain volts and that something may be staying on overnight etc. the only thing I can think of is the stereo/sat nav/hand free kit as that's been blocking itself quite a bit (the radio intermittently stops until either the sat Nav talks or the phone is removed from the range).

Anybody have any checks a simpleton can do ? I'm reluctant to put it into the dealer to be told its big bucks.

Yes I've replaced the battery, they also checked it was re-charging and said it was
Ever get this sorted? if so how was it the starter motor drawing too many amps on each start? thus slowly depleting your battery because short drives could not replenish this current lost?
