Cool Wet Floor Mat....

Ok, I searched thoroughly before posting this but I couldn't find anything.

When I bought my car I was vacuuming it and what not and noticed that the rear passenger side floorboard and mat were really wet. I figured that the person had recently shampoo'd the mats and that it was just a little damp still. Well, I just noticed that it is wet again. It doesn't smell, and it doesn't seem to be sticky or anything so I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this before. It has rained recently, so I checked under the car to see if there was any way water from the road could've gotten to it from the bottom, but I don't see how that'd be possible.

I don't know if it could have anything to do with it, but when I bought the car there was water in the back passenger side fuse compartment...? Not really sure what it's called but it's where the fuse box is in the rear of the X5. Down in the bottom of that compartment was about an inch of standing water. When I took it to the shop to have the thermostat assembly replaced, I pointed it out to the guy and he said that he's never seen it before. Needless to say, we just shop vac'd it out and it hasn't been an issue since.

Any ideas because I have nothing......?

Well, I've just solved this problem in the old 2000 MB ML320 that we have but that was for the front passenger mat.

The passenger-side moonroof/sunroof drainage pipe obviously has a problem. Somewhere, it has a hole/break which resulted in water coming down the inside of the front fuse box when it rained and therefore soaking the mat. I couldn't access whatever drainage piping there is. It took a lot of trial-and-error to figure out that this was how water was getting onto the front mat

I've removed the moonroof fuse and am going to silicone seal it shut the moonroof this weekend (it has duct tape now).

So check where the water drains from your sunroof...

Interesting...I'll definitely keep an eye out this weekend since I think it's going to rain. So water wasn't physically dripping, it was just leaking and running down somewhere...hmmm

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
you have leaking sunroof hoses, I hope they aren't disconnected, just blocked.

Most of us here take a piece of wire run it through the tube with some club soda, hopefully that will clear any blockage you may have.

open your tailgate and there should be two drains by the top tailgate hinges, if you pour club soda on the sunroof channel it should come out and drain, if it does not, you have a blockage or a disconnected hose.

open your sunroof you should be able to see the front 2 drain channels, maybe leaves or dirt is blocking the opening?

if you have hoses disconnected I believe you have to either take the sunroof cassette out or drop the headliner....

if you got water in the right cubby you may want to check the left cubby since that is where your audio system resides. You don't want to short that puppy out, or maybe you do if it is a DSP system and you want to replace it.

In the event you need to remove the headliner: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...iner-time.html---see post #9.
Good luck.

I had "exactly" this issue!

If unblocking your drain tubes doesn't help, you may need to look at your rubber seals. That is what ended up causing my leaks! Not my sunroof, I tried everything before I replaced the rear door weather seals and the channel rubber.

Good luck with it mate
