RB, have you already replaced or 'turned' the gear in the actuator? I didn't remember from your earlier posts. Which vendor will you send the module to? Let us know your impressions. I'm still good on mine, having 'turned' the gear a few weeks back .....

Your trifecta is different than my trifecta (pre-facelift vs. facelift)

Your trifecta is 99% of the time cured by flipping the actuator gear (enjoy that free fix for more than a few years and miles by the way!), but my trifecta is 90% of the time the contacts and electronics inside the ABS module (Bosch 5.7) going bad, as they were an issue in the E39 and subsequently E53 modules. If memory serves me, the facelift E53 got the Bosch 8.0 module, which doesn't have the electrical issues of the 5.7.

You also may be correct with other members in saying "it might be a wheel sensor" but if it was a wheel sensor gone bad it would remain bad, and the trifecta would remain indefinitely until I got the sensor replaced. My first trifecta came up 1.5 years ago, and only remains for a drive cycle or two at most, then goes off. This trifecta is intermittent which would point to it being module related, since the fault is caused by temperature extremes in the engine bay and ambient.

I'll be sending to BBA Reman in MASSachussets, as they are the closest repair place on the 'bay to me in Jersey, and provide 2-way shipping on their auctions. Will update, hope that helps but yeah you shouldn't have to send your module in like mine....

Great posts. But I have the same light issue and it turned out to be "steering angle sensor". Still need to find time to change. Of course this is after we reset code and cleaned and checked rear sensor. I too was told ABS Mod, but thankfully not it.

I would get the trifecta after a short amount of sitting with the engine on (traffic lights, waiting, ect). Sending it off to BBA re-manufacturing fixed the problem for me.

I wish mine was. Tried the left turn/right turn thing and did nothing.

I've had my '04 X5 for three weeks. Drove it home (Oklahoma) from Houston. No issues at all. Get it home and I'm starting to have all sorts of stuff. The trifecta lights have come on three times. This last time it laid down on me on the highway. I'm not sure it's not an alternator. It wouldn't start. Had some battery but eventually wouldn't turn over. I know I need to have it scanned but it's the weekend and there's snow on the ground here. Plus I can't get it to drive right now. I've charged the battery but if I start it and let it idle for a short time it goes into the mode, radio shuts off and stuff starts shutting down. Oh yeah....previous owner just replaced the battery before I bought it. I did open it up to check that too.

Now why would someone go and replace a battery before selling the car? Either they were hoping it would fix the problem, or they were hoping the car will start and run just long enough to sell the car.

Well, I'm not sure if this was the issue prior to the battery being replaced but I unlocked the OBD test and my voltage running is at 11.7. I'm thinking an alternator is in order.

Now I'm back to having intermittent trifectas kick up while driving [after rotating the transfer case gear]. I'll check the gear again, but, given the multiple possible causes, I'll check the alt output before getting my indy shop to run a scan. I'm going to have them flush the power steering with their BG machine and install a new PS reservoir/filter I ordered and they can scan it while its in the shop...
