Hope I'm not too late here.
BBA running a sale on eBay once in awhile for ABS module repair with lifetime warranty. They are rated #1 by E39 owners and I had mine repaired there too. Regular price is ~$225. Sale price is $99 with free return shipping.

Thanks tmv and yes I read the E39 boards apparently BBA reputation is great! I may end up going with another repair service in Virginia, he is a 2 man job and quite the stand up reputation as well, don't be fooled by the website name www.cheapabs.com but I spoke to the guy already and he said Bosch 5.7's are 139 free return shipping and if my module is in good shape I get refunded no bench test fee.

He just got a machine from Europe which will replicate the semiconductor bonding that goes on these modules from the factory, so I am eager to have him repair my module should I need to go that route.

BBA Reman although great rep on the E39 boards, replied via email that my Bosch 5.7 module would be 299 + shipping to fix, I'm not a fan of companies that advertise a price on ebay then when you inquire direct they change the price significantly. And like you said, sometimes they do sales for $98 so the regular price is obviously inflated.

I have only had it happen again twice since last year, but its been in the past week, because of the heat i'm afraid. I am sending the module in for repair/rebuild as preventative maintenance, its $95 including two-way shipping to BBA Reman.

Kind of a no brainer, and hopefully that will keep the intermittent issue from returning.

For what its worth, the yellow trifecta only comes on for one or two drive cycles at most and then goes away so my issue is most likely module related. If it was a dead speed sensor it would probably stay until further notice.

I just had the trifecta kick up on mine last night. Yuck. I haven't had it scanned, and didn't notice the clicking, but will check for that, too, and read the bimmerfest posts QSilver was good enough to link. Are all three likely culprits [wheel sensor, ABS module, and plastic drive wheel in the transfer case actuator] DIY on ramps with common tools? Guess I'll be reading further ...

Wheel sensor is DIY, ABS module if needing repaired is a send-out job, the plastic actuator gear I believe is also a DIY job.

however if you don't have the clicking, not sure if its the actuator gear. SlickGT1 had the actuator gear problem I'd wait to hear him chime in about it.

Has your trifecta stayed on? I noticed mine was intermittent after a few hot driving cycles, sometimes it would pop on during a drive and after letting the X sit in the garage and cool down, when going out in the evening again the trifecta would reset after startup and reset of the steering angle sensor (lock to lock and back to center). That's how I figured mine isn't a wheel sensor.

If your trifecta stays on and all 3 are yellow it is most likely a wheel sensor, but regarless I'd scan with DIS to see the faults first.

Mine is intermittent, and my quick reads of this thread and that on bimmerfest suggest ABS module as the likely culprit. It sounds like some of the code readers have a hard time identifying the source. I'll monitor for awhile and continue reading .....

Your alt is good though right Riggo? I haven't heard much about ABS module issues on the facelifts as I thought they were Bosch 5.8 modules, most of our E53 issues are from the 5.7

I notice my trifecta features a red brake warning, not yellow, which I assume is just a model year issue [RB's, photo in first post in the thread, is an 03]. Its not constant, but now frequent intermittent. I'll get it hooked up to a computer then go from there.

You aren't alone Riggo. I have an intermittent one too. I scanned mine and it said LF sensor. Cleared it and it went away for ~50 miles. Now it is back and need to scan again.
