I will add that the fuel sucking contraption that moves the fuel over the hump does go bad in the sense that there's an O-ring at the top where it connects to the sender that hardens and goes bad. This breaks the seal enough that the venturi magic quits working, and it will not move the fuel over the hump, even after replacing the fuel filter as I did.

I have an ongoing issue with my 330 dying on the highway on less than a quarter tank, but only if driven extended periods. I've since changed my habits and fuel up at 1/4 or more. Too much money for such an odd problem!!

i cant believe !

what i am reading , x5 question should be discussed by mechanics and other x5 users , previous or current . that would stop a lot of distraction , now listen , the x5 e53 has two and actually three fuel pumps, one : in the tank , fuel delivery pump , second the small dosage pump for your auxiliary heater , webasto , third and most important if go wrong is the high pressure fuel pump 2.5 bars if i remember right which sits left hand side of engine in the middle and is a pig to get too ! so i hope that helps some of you

More useless info for a post that is 4 years old and the OP is a USA citizen.

Sorry but USA X5s are not equipped with a webasto heater, nor is a webasto heater an option in the USA.

In all the years that I worked on X5 and other British cars in the USA I have yet to find a car equipped with a webasto heater. Perhaps the heater is not approved by DOT for use in cars, probably because our over regulated government is concerned that you have a gasoline fired heater in/on the car and either it will catch fire in the event of a crash, or the carbon monoxide produced by the burning of gasoline will render a driver unconscious.

Why the name calling?

Let me add you to my ignore list.

the forum is worldwide ( you are indeed using the internet here my friend )so why would you bring time and geography in , we all can do with help and are able to choose which bit we take , now i commented for clarity and from the things i know , being in england , and i have friends in detroit and canada and they have auxilary heaters , so its not for nothing , but you are welcome to ignore me !
