BM54 Repair in Melbourne, Australia

Hi guys, the driver's side (in Aus/passenger side on US) speaker in my '05 4.4 Sport has sh*t itself and after reading, I assume it's the amp. My question is do you need a specialist to fix it or can any auto electrician fix it for me? Is there anything else I should know?

Are you sure it's the amp and not a loose connection or a blown speaker? Symptoms? Have you tested it to make sure you're getting output for that speaker at the amp?

If it is the amp, replacing it is probably your best bet.

There's also an Australian section within Xoutpost here: Australia Forum - Xoutpost.com

I'm not sure, but it comes on for about 30 secs sometimes when the car is first turned on and then it just stops working. From what I've read people who have had this all say it's the BM54 amp. It's not a loose wire because I had to fix a broken door handle a few weeks ago and while the door card was off I checked the wires to the speaker and they were all good.

Nope, an auto electrician cannot fix it.

If you are sure it is not a wiring problem, then this guy in the UK repairs them quiet cheaply and can upgrade the amps (my whole unit died nearly a year ago and I bought an upgraded module from him). His email address is [email protected] and his name is Baris. He might be able to help without you sending the unit to him.

As X5SND suggested, for region specific questions, best to use the Australia Forum - Xoutpost.com forum.

Thanks RB, I'll shoot him an email. And have checked out the Aussie page. I'll use it from now on, just didn't know it existed.

Cheers

No probs.. He is very approachable and highly talked about in Europe. I forgot to mention that no one in Australia fixes them, but do sell "second hand units" for AU$650+. I think I paid less than half of that for a refurbished, upgraded Amps version from Baris.

Took me a while to find the Aussie Page too as it is only recently that there has been a lot of activity.
