Yes, its an auto-dip feature when you reverse. It can be turned off by sliding the mirror select switch.

I use this all the time when I'm backing up to park ...prevents from rubbing the mags against the curb.

I had both mirrors doing it for a time. Not every time just whenever the "Silver Lady: decided the time was right.
When I had the LKM replaced some years ago the "programming" seems to have taken the double dip away.

Same here, except I disable it when I'm parking next to bushes without a curb because I need to see where the bushes are so I don't scratch my X by rubbing next to them.

To disable that feature just move the mirror selection switch to the opposite mirror.

From the owners manual: how to activate & deactivate the front passenger mirror tilt feature.

if you are referring to an issue with the dip-

that is, if the auto-dip is not functioning in a proper manner this may assist-

Thanks to Bulk for posting #5-

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...d-writeup.html

My auto dip is 'acting up' in that it should be a uniform, one time dip upon reverse but it it will move up, move down, etc... continuously. I suspect that Bulk's write up will solve the issue but have not gotten around to it as it is not a priority and my wife drives the X Mon.-Fri. But seems very easy and straight forward.

Hope it solves your problem (if you have one).

Not True. Only BMWs with electrically adjustable seats - if you have manually adjustable seats then you don't get this function.

Hmmmm For some reason I thought my M3 (e46) with manually adjusted seats had this fonction also ....That was my only one with manual seats.
