I would assume there is some sort of audible relay or a fuse somewhere. I know in GM's they use a giant obtrusive blue box on the interior fuse panel to make this noise. Not sure on the X5.

Do you get the chime/gong for other check control warnings? If so, the audible alert has probably been turned off. If you have the hardware/software (like BMW DIS/GT-1), you can hook up and turn the audible LIGHTS ON warning back on.

go into the tests inside the cluster, unlock the tests - one of the tests is GONG - it will go through the audible signals that the car makes, including the one that comes on when the lights are left on...

if the GONG is operational, then it is turned off in the programming

I dont get a chime for anything.

I have a BMW Scanner 1.4 that i can hook up to the car but not sure on how to check that this feature has been turned off.

You mention to carry out 'checks inside the cluster' how do i do this?

If the plug connector is not plugged into the gong, how can i determine this? Where exactly is this? Any pictures online?

Thanks

I guess i will have to check the actual chime speaker.

If its not working i could replace with on from eBay.

You mentioned that it may be disabled in programming and not faulty, how would i go about re-enabling it?

do a search for OBC unlocking, there are some instruction on how to unlock your OBC.

going off the memory and assuming that you have high cluster (procedure is slightly different for low cluster):

follow one of the procedures outlined in these posts (Unlocking the OBC (Low and High))), depending if you have a low or a high cluster...

once unlocked, i think the GONG is test 13 - if the car makes the sounds when tested, then your gong speaker is connected and is working... then, we will move on to the programming portion...

first check to see if the GONG is operational by doing these tests...

Once you've UNLOCKED your OBC...go to TEST 13 as TX5 mentioned above... and you will get this demonstration of the GONG tones (click link below)...if you get no sounds, then ditto everything he suggested:

Ok...done the checks, Check 13 GONG.

I cannot hear any noise?

So what are my options now? Check speaker connected properly and if it is...get a new one?
