Auto Headlights

Hi All,

I have a 2005 E53 3.0d that has no auto headlights.

This is annoying as i continuously forget to turn them off when i lock the car and i have run into a dead battery a few times already.

Is it possible to convert to a auto headlight function? I can probably get the knob from eBay but what about wiring and sensors etc?

It would be a great modification as i would get auto head lights during night/day and they would also turn off automatically.

Hopefully there is a kit out there with what i need or original parts from BMW.

Thanks

I can purchase the control switch on eBay here:

BMW E53 X5 LCM Light Control Switch Unit Headlight Xenon Automatic 6930243 | eBay

But i obviously need the sensors and wiring etc.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

you are looking into having a new windshield with the light sensor (and/or rain sensor), you can't just install the light sensor onto existing windshield, you will need the correct switch (S8), wiring from the switch to the LCM and the LCM must be able to support the automatic headlight feature, and if it supports the feature, then you need to program that feature to activate it...

windshield alone seems to be: a. cost prohibitive, b. labor intensive, and c. not guaranteed to work...

not sure if the factory solution is feasible - is there an aftermarket option???

Do you not hear the annoying dinging when you leave your lights on? lol Just buy a 12v battery saver and hook it to your battery. Never have an issue again.

Hi,

what are you calling automatic lights?
That they are powered on when you go into a tunnel or that they automatically turn off when you pull the key out?

Best, Helmuth

There is no dinging noise when the lights are left on and I remove the key from the vehicle.

Should there be? Perhaps this is not working in mine.

Let me know.

Thanks

Ok just checked for myself. When you remove the key from the ignition while the lights are still in the on position, it makes to very distinct "dings" and also flashs "lights on" on the dashboard.

Thanks for checking.

I believe I get the lights on message on mine however no sound is made.

Could this be a blown fuse?
