I have a question.... So where is the "Y-shaped" pipe, I pulled my engine cover off last night and only see the 2 short pipes going from the valve covers to the intake.

And yes... I did have a fair amount of oil going into my intake

So sad for a $90k vehicle...

On mine the intake part looks pretty clean but ill just flush each hose with some brake clean.

Also funny story about Seafoam..
It was lunch at work and i decided to pour most of the bottle into that hole above the intake where yours was clogged with oil.. i let it sit for like 10-15 minutes. Had trouble starting it up as expected also Engine light ( cleared it after test drive) LOTS OF SMOKE drive around the shop and pull out and FLOOR IT all the way to like 65 or something. it was quite the sight everything on the road behind me was full of white smoke hahaha.

Then i keep looking back and see a white car weaving and catching up and i knew it was a cop haha so i start turning into this parking lot cause i knew he got me. He comes out and is like you know why i pulled you over? I said Uhhh the smoke?
Yes what else?
Uhh aggresive acceleration?
Yeah... Where are you comming from

German Motor werks...
Well tell your boss that he owes me one by taking me on a plane ride hahah (boss has small airplane)

All I am saying is that is if valve stem seals aren't on the repair order, its not likely they were replaced.

PMed you. It sounds like you have the newer version already.

The 3-way spider hose is the old version. The two hose version is the update.

I did the test by taking off both of those tubes and putting a CAP on the intake inlet that one of the tubes connects to. Long story short, the X5 still smokes and taking off the hoses did not help solve the issue. Also the car was idles very rough when both of these CCV hoses were disconnected. I do now have a check engine light that I need to clear.

This is the test i did. Smoking 2006 750i - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Since I bought my 4.8iS I have had the same issue many owners here experience with smoking on extended idle.

A quick background on my car specifically to give you guys insight into why I refused to believe the valve stem seals were bad:

- I bought the car from a guy who owned six or seven other somewhat rare and collectible cars. He went CRAZY with maintenance on the car and gave me over $30,000 in receipts from BMW on stuff which he replaced over the last 30k miles. One of the biggest repairs (besides replacing the transmission and transfer case) was the intermediate lever repair. The receipt for that repair showed that the heads were removed and mentioned all the things they replaced. The one thing missing was valve stem seals. Knowing what I know about engines and repairs I refused to believe that the dealer would of pulled heads and replaced the eccentric shafts but not pop new seals in.

Nevertheless as I've driven the smoking has gotten worse. Oil consumption hasn't been bad at all but the smoke has gotten unbearable and I was starting to lose faith. I decided to try one last thing (with some reassurance from a thread I saw on bimmerfest) and perform the CCV update on my car.

With that said, I performed the work yesterday when I got home from work. I changed both hoses (with updated insulated BMW hoses) and both valves. The inlet to the intake was FILTHY and gunked up with oil which I cleaned out as much as I could. The hoses weren't brittle but were clogged with oil pretty bad. I warmed the car up for about ten minutes and it blew out quite a bit of smoke (left over) but after driving it around lightly last night and beating on it REALLY hard this morning I can happily say I think I conquered the problem (hope I didn't jinx that).

Part #'s I used:
11 61 7 547 186 x1
11 61 7 547 185 x1
11 12 7 547 058 x2

Labor Time: 10 minutes

Powerfoam works really well for getting oil and crud off engine covers FYI:

Next on the list is sea-foaming the car this weekend.

OP Can you attached a pic of how the hose are routed? Of the complete install It seems the hose are not connected.

I may just buy some nylon hose and clamps.

Thanks,

I though it would be that way. Not sure why they ever has a Y shaped hose.
