Beltronics StiR Plus w/Laser Jammer

anyone put one of these in their e53?

Beltronics STI R Plus Radar Laser Detector w Shifter Bundle Bel Stir 065789201093 | eBay

i had the passport SRX in my e39, and let me tell you... it saved my a$$ SOOOO many times! only problem with the passport is that it wasn't capable of GPS location and knowing where the automated speed traps are located.

hefty price tag, but if you drive your bmw as i do, then it will end up saving you a ton of frustration.

If you're looking for something with GPS and crowd-sourced speed trap info, you might want to check out the Escort Live app and any of the compatible Escort detectors. I'm pretty sure they're all substantially cheaper than the Beltronics model you linked.

will do. however, i really like the laser shifter capabilities and the incogneto install.

in my e39, the only thing you could see was the little tiny face of the display, which i installed into the plastic piece where the traction control button was.

the thing is, these boys hide in different spots every day. i got stopped going 2 mph over three times one week on the same road, by the same cop, just hiding in a different spot.

and if you do a lot of highway travel (i do), and go faster than the speed limit (which is a slow 65 mph here), then you definitely need a jammer! it saved my ass soooo many times! i'm actually driving 2500 miles here in about a month to move out to CO, and i am definitely not driving the damn speed limit the entire way. plus, i like to know when the cops are nearby, just in case i gotta hide my doobie

I think Escort owns Beltronics. The laser jammers are legal in most states with the exception of a few last I knew. A good radar detector will pay for itself. If you have the cash and are in a high risk area, or simply drive a lot, I'd say go for it.

I had a pretty interesting conversation with one of my psychology professors about speeding tickets, and how its not an uncommon practice for law enforcement set up speed zones that work against you psychologically. Way more info than I can get into right now, but he made some interesting points. Not condoning wreck-less driving by any means, but also don't want to support unfair revenue generation "in the name of safety".

I'm sure someone will pop up on here and say, "I never speed." You guys are reckless with your radar-do-hickeys and stuff. B.S.
