If not the X, which current SUV would you purchase?

Just curious what people would consider owning other than a BMW.

If you use "current" to mean cars that are currently in production, the answer is easy: I'd choose a Cayenne GTS because it's the best designed and highest quality "sports" SUV. (Even if the X5M and X6M were on the table, I'd still probably opt for the GTS. In my opinion, the GTS is superior to the new X M variants in both design and quality.)

If you use "current" to mean SUVs within the last generation, there's no question that I'd be deciding between the 6-Speed-Manual Cayenne GTS and the Touareg V10 TDI. But deciding between the two would be very difficult indeed.

Really like the touareg v10 as well as the gts. Both seem to be on par with the X as far as maintenance issues go.

That's a fair point - so long as the 4.8is you have doesn't develop the transmission, valve guide, or air suspension woes. (Not hating on your 4.8, but it is a relevant point...)

That said, I have a sneaking suspicion that the V10 TDI has astronomical maintenance costs (incredibly low production numbers and therefore spare, off-the-shelf parts are likely much more expensive than those of their V8 or V6 counterparts.)

Up, I might be looking at the '13-'14 Jeep Grand Cherokee as a replacement to the X. Interiors are really nice.

Not sure what i would get if not an X but one thing is for sure , if I choose to stay in the SUV category , it'll have to be a hybrid....probably a Lexus RX

I'd probably do something looney like a G55.
