How do i save the climate control settings to my likes

morning guys and gals !

Quick question i have had my X for awhile now but i still cannot figure out how to get the vehicle to remember by settings ( IE steering wheel, climate controls ) the seat is fine but sometimes hasnt happened in a long time it will just go completely forward.

I really just wondering how to get the climate control to remember my settings as its getting warm and the previous powners 76 degrees is too much now.

I'm not quite sure how to answer your question (or if I even understand it) because we don't know which HVAC system you have. If you have the IHKR control unit (it has rotary dials) then it is a manually regulated system in which you set the controls as desired by adjusting the dials and turning the system on/off as needed.

If you have the AUTO climate system which has the digital IHKA control panel...it works pretty much like your home's thermostat that controls your furnace and AC. You basically select the temp that is comfortable for you and depending on time of year or ambient temp, you select the AC (snowflake) button to turn on the AC compressor which will help cool and dehumidify the air (just as you select AC for your home during the spring/summer/fall when AC is desired for more comfortable temps versus using the furnace when ambient temps are cooler...yet you generally keep the thermostat setting somewhere around 70° F.

Here's the instructions from the owners manual for the AUTO (IHKA) system...again, you basically set it and forget it except for extenuating circumstances when RAPID defrost/de-ice may be required or the AC button needs to be selected, or you'd like to have manual selection of fan speed and/or air distribution:

The 1st method that comes to mind is to spread two fingers on the same hand wide enough so that you're touching both driver/pass temp button/arrows at the same time, then press each button at the same time. Obviously I have no official method...just the aforementioned kludge.

The e39 & e53 share the same IHKA control unit...so info belw applies to both:

Nothing? I did offer a method (perhaps inelegant with some tongue-in-cheek tossed in)...but none the less the 2-finger method does work to raise/lower both temp settings simultaneously.

I have the Auto climate controls but what im getting at is

If i have the air turned on to 60 and then i turn it off while driving. so the system is not running. When i return to the car and start it up it goes back to being set at 60 why is this not just set at what it was when i turned the truck off?

I also hate to always have to lower my steering most everytime but sometimes it does do it but never all the way down

you just said you had it set at 60 when you turned it off so thats why when you start the car its at 60

It remembers the last temperature, fan, and vent outlet settings. What it doesn't do is remember to be turned off. Essentially, that is because the vehicle is designed to have the AC on all the time. BMW designengineers wouldn't be able to understand why you would want it off. There isn't a separate vent system, so it works better being on. In summer it cools, in winter it drys out the air and reduces condensation. I do understand that some like the AC off, just like some like the windows down on the highway. In my case, I turn on the AC when I buy a new vehicle, and leave it on until I sell it. I use the temperature control settings, and if the system determines it doesn't need to run the compressor it doesn't do so.

There would be if we had bought Volkswagens. Or just about any other vehicle with dual zone climate controls. BMW appears to value individuality.
