Lots of great advice. Gas mileage is the same for either and both use premium fuel. The 2006 uses later technology which you might or might not like better. It would be an easier decision if the 4.4 had 15,000 less miles even if you paid a few thousand more. That said, at 75,000 miles you could have another 25,000-30,000 or more miles before you are spending to rebuild wear items like suspension, etc. Would be great if you could find out the history of the vehicle. Used BMW prices in this area have been steadily declining in this area. I expect KBB hasn't kept up. Independent dealers usually don't have to be pressed hard to sweeten the deal with new tires. Might be a negotiation item against any problems with PPI. Sounds like you are ready to upgrade if all goes well with PPI-----good luck either way.

$11k is a lot of coin for basically the same truck with less miles.

The V8 is a thirsty, maintenance whore. The I6 will run forever, even if you neglect it.

The "switching cost" never goes away... crappy trade-in, taxes, registration, etc.

I personally don't see a real reason to switch.

What an analogy. Breaking up with your ride is like breaking up with your

so, rdham wants that new feeling but without venturing out from a brunette with hazel eyes into a blonde with blue eyes ( i mean, going from E53 to a Lexus or whatnot!!!)

Alright...PPI came back and of course oil change & one tire replacement as I expected. Only other item was the right front axle boot for $300. This maintenance price range is within what I expected. I think I have done all I can do....gonna pull the trigger, hopefully today but prob tomorrow.

Thanks again all.

I havent posted much on this site; but referenced it constantly over the last 7 years....invaluable.

To help in your decision:
I recently traded in my perfect condition 06 4.4. I was 2nd owner. 70k miles and flawless condition.

I got 15k on the trade after some negotiation. Other dealers were in the $11 to $12 range, and higher selling price on the new car that I ended up getting for 3% under invoice. I felt I ended up with a fair deal. Kbb was suggesting $16.5 but I think that was high. In my opinion they seem to lag the current market by 4 months or so.

The dealer then sold my old X to a local used Eurocar specialist. They have it on their lot for around $20k. They've had it now for a little over a month. They are located in the northeast.

That X was a great car. Very few issues during the 6 years I had it. I kept on top of the maintenance and was lucky to keep the cosmetics flawless.

Good luck with your X. My experience says great car. I'm looking forward to my next one in a few years.

I would just add that when it's time to put some $$ it is important to identify location / country where cost of living is different...just between Canada and US i see a 10% to 25% favourable to US for identical product ...
