On 'back-order' - what's the longest you've waited?

Hi Guys,

I've just tried to order a new bumper for the X5 (putting a 4.8is bumper on this time).
There was a drop in price recently of the 4.8is bumper and it seems they've now sold out and there are none available in UK, or all of Europe for that matter.

Just wondered, is it possible that BMW will stop making this part (51117146578) ? Or do they need to reach a certain number of orders to justify manufacturing a new batch?

I'll be in Munich tomorrow so I guess I could check there, but my local UK dealer usually gets parts in from Munich in 2 days so I believe him when he says that they're out

Does anyone have experience of how long 'on back-order' could last?

Looks like you can still get the part from BMW NA, as it says available in 1-3 days on ECS:

I wouldn't imagine the 4.8is front bumper would not not be made anymore, what would happen to the cars that get in accidents and need new bumpers?


Usually dealers can look up parts orders and give you an estimated lead time of when its coming back in stock?

ECS looks great, just waiting to see if they will ship to the UK.

Just checked, no stock in US either, and shipping very expensive... hmmm... thats a pain :$
