If you come to the conclusion that the abs/dsc module is suspect, or the wheel speed sensors may be the cause, check out my thread. I spent a lot of time trouble shooting my dsc module and posted the info. Speed sensor testing included.

Wow, excellent work. Very thorough and complete and looks like it takes the failure prone parts and makes them better. Would you be interested in doing another module (not sure if mine is in need of repair, I had the "trifecta" a few weeks ago but it was showing brake light switch codes)

Hi, You need to be sure about the issue first before you get the module done. A very easy way to find out is.... Start your vehicle cold (hopefully your yellow dash lights are not on) Remove your headlight and mounting bracket, get your hair dryer out and heat the ABS/DSC module while the X5 is running (use common sense while heating it.... Don't melt stuff!) Have someone in the vehicle watching the dash lights. If they illuminate yellow while you do this, its your module. If your abs/dsc lamps come on at start up, more indepth testing is required...... IE; Amp clamp at the speed sensors to see if there is any current. If the bonding wires have come off in your module with a large gap, heating the module will have no effect. No current at one of your sensors will indicate this. At this point you want to "sensor swap" to make sure you have no current with a known good sensor..... Then it's almost "hands down" the module.
I have found that if your vehicle looses connection with one sensor, usually you only get the warning lamps on the dash (yellow). If it looses connection to 2 sensors, it will put you into transmission fail safe mode. The front wheel sensors (connectivity) are very much a part of this. If your vehicle is going into tranny fail safe mode all the time, you should have the problem fixed before the tranny fail safe mode wrecks your tranny. Going highway speeds and having the tranny slam into 3rd is very hard on the planetary gears. I'm sorry, Im not taking repairs on these modules.... Mind you, the amount of people that have asked, I could start a small buisness. Good Luck |
