Totaled X5 - Hail Damage
So the insurance took a look at it and decided it was too costly to repair and totaled it. But I didn't get a bad deal since insurance gave me a great appraisal for my car and paid me $18,500 for my X5 (3.0, Sport Package, 94K mi). My own research on KBB and NADA showed that my vehicle was worth around 15-16K tops so I was not upset at all and actually used that money to get into a 2008 3.0 X5 with just over 51K miles. I'm sad to say that I won't be around this E53 forum as much but will definitely keep coming back just to take a peek... So on to the E70 forum I go and thanks to all for the great tips and help I got from this forum. Thanks all, E. |

Believe me guys.. I was surprised as you!!! All you hear is horror stories on how insurance companies try to low ball you and I was preparing myself to battle them over the amount they were going to offer but when I heard the actual amount I had to ask them to repeat it to make sure.. All I can say is I'm a happy camper!!
The best part of all is that I bought the 06 X5 in February of 2009 when the economy was at it's lowest point and ended up paying only $20,750 for the truck with about 38K miles on it. So the truck only cost me a little over $2K for 4 years of use.. You can't beat that!!! So far I'm enjoying the E70 and thanks for the well wishes. E |

$18500 is pretty awesome! Which insurance company?
Still sucks to get smashed up like that. Must have been pretty scary.

It was pretty scary at first but then after a bit I calmed down and actually took a short video of it... I'll post it on youtube later and will post the link to it. The insurance company was Progressive. I've actually have had pretty good experiences with them. I've had a couple of claims with them and they have handled them very well I must say.
They also offered me $9,500 if I wanted to keep the car but I didn't want to mess around trying to fix the car myself so I opted instead for the full $18.5K. |

I think I would have done the same. I would rather have a X that hasn't had plastic surgery.
