It still pulls away as it should tick over seems to hunt a bit ( fluctuate) i can hear the turbo spool under light acceleration and it sounds normal but under hard acceleration it sounds rough
Do the breather first. Then go for a good long drive, and make sure you boot it a few times.. Our Diesels, according to BMW, do need to be driven hard sometimes to get rid of soot build up.

I hate doing that at night... Poor cars behind us... James Bond smoke screen when you do..

Keep us updated.

Do you see engine smoke when you unscrew the engine oil cap?

Smoke from oil fill is symptom of bad oil separator.

As mentioned prior have you changed the oil breather---that should be first.
Next check the boost hoses to see if you are losing boost.

Revision to troubleshooting order--check and replace if bad.
Air filter
oil breather
boost leaks
EGR valve--can be cleaned if not real bad

Hope this corrects the problem
