I'm an idiot and I can't get in my X5.

2002 3.0

Here's the dilemma the best I can explain it:

1. Battery is dead.
2. Drivers side front door latch is completely broken.
3. Like many newer vehicles there are no other key holes on this car.

When I use the key to unlock the door I can easily unlock my drivers side door but I am unable to use this door to enter the vehicle currently due to the door latch breaking when there was a freeze recently and it snapped.

I'm trying to come up with a creative way to get a charge to the battery or car enough to unlock the other doors, or access the latch to open the hood. Basically anyway to get into the vehicle. Basically everyone I have talked to so far has basically come to the conclusion that I need to break a window out of the X5 to get into it to pop the hood and charge the battery.

Is there any way to access a power terminal from the starter (I can't seem to locate it under the car) or otherwise to get some juice to it to unlock the car? I have been screwing around with this thing for a few weeks and starting to get desperate. If nothing else please enjoy reading this and laughing at me and my predicament.

Thanks for any advice you all my have.

only through the hood left. that would give you a way to charge the battery. might need to break the kidney grills to get to the latch though.

So you are suggesting that you can get to the latch for the hood possibly from the front and pop it? Anyway to get to the starter under the car and charge?

Yeah but my problem is locating the starter itself. I have removed the plastic piece near the front underneath the vehicle (not the metal skid plate). Where the heck is the damn starter at lol!. I have a battery charger in my garage I can easily use to charge it if I can just find the damn starter.

So that's where the starter is I take it. Do I need to remove the skid plate to access it?

A few weeks?

The space is too tight anyways to get any leads to it anyways. The starter is located under the vehicle, on the right hand side of the transmission i believe. But once you locate it, you will see you will not be able to get leads on that sucker.

Check with your insurance carrier. Most have roadside assistance that you pay for in your premium. Tell them you can't get into your vehicle because the vehicle is dead and door carrier is broken. They can send someone with an airbag unit that they wil put between the door and jamb and get it open enough to get a hook on the interior door handle and pull the door open.

I don't know how it is on 3.0 but on the 4.4 you have to take the skip plate out to get access to the power cable.
You just need to connect the charger for a few seconds to unlock the car and then you can connect it properly.

The problem with that is the inside door latch is broken also. And all the other doors are locked.

You have nothing to lose by calling your insurance co. There is no deductible and no cost to have someone come out. If the pro's can't get into your car (they can), then you are still back in the same position.
