Tailgate "grip strip" - can't find part

Hi there

I have my rear trunk randomly open when I reverse and have been told by the dealer that I need to replace the "rear trunk grip strip" as the wiring has corroded.

I'm trying to find a replacement "rear trunk grip strip" but can't seem to find the part online.

Could someone please point me in the right direction on finding this part.

I have a X5 2002 4.4i E53

Thanks in advance.

then input here www.furiousmethod.com to compare price and find best deal

Running a thin bead of silicone around the light cover gaskets, and up by the plug as well will prevent moisture from getting in.

Here is the link for the part from ECS BMW E53 X5 Trunk Grip Handle

The same thing just happened to me. I cut the wire and put it back together. I have 2 other options too open the hatch. I don't need that rear button.

From what the dealer discribed, I need to replace the rubber button that you press on the tailgate to release and open the tailgate so it's not on the window section it's the tailgate section.

I had one of the lights going on and off. Tried to fix it. My fix stopped it from going on. I ordered the new strip from BMW Parts - Genuine BMW Parts and Accessories - Save Money The stip, gasket and rubber actuator totaled $116+ including shipping. As suggested, got the part numbers from realoem.
