Air suspension compressor repair kit

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and, well, am actually an Audi Owner!! ok I know, I know, so why do i post in here?? well... I managed to repair my Audi allroads air suspension compressor manufactured by Wabco some time ago, it turns out from some of your members getting in touch with me this compressor is found on many cars, BMW being one of them, hence here I am, to give you information should you wish to use it.

Please find here
my post on our VWAudi forum detailing my very 1st findings of a stripped Wabco compressor from my allroad early in 2012: Allroad Air Suspension Compressor strip & repair

it contains info on stripping it and possible solutions I looked at, from a repair kit from VW, to a repair kit I can provide which has a new precision machined PTFE piston ring, bolts and o-ring seal to allow you to refurbish your compressor and give it a new lease of life,

This kit is found here: bagpipingandy | eBay

The compressor found on models using this Wabco unit is the same appart from the mounting brackets and electrical connections but the internal assembly is the same uinit and this kit fits all.

I know this is a very poor 1st post and sounds like a sales pitch but please forgive me, it is intended for information for you guys to let you know there are solutions other than buying a new compressor, our cars cost enough without eating our wallets on full exchange units, rather than the option to repair what is actually wrong, the kit is ideal for us DIYer's looking for a cost effective and robust solution to refurbishing your air suspension compressor.

Again appologies to Forum Mods if this is removed, but hopefully this is seen as information sharing and not a sales tact.

please see above links for your reference & If you have any questions please just ask I will help as best as I can. My experience is with the allroad but I would be more than happy to share experiences if you have any questions.

best regards

Andy

Andy thanks for posting, I believe a couple members have actually purchased your repair kit with excellent results, I was aware of the VW/Audi repair kit working on our BMW's after I had already replaced my compressor, but it really is great info for any members who are dealing with their compressor being out of spec (throwing EHC 74 pressure remains constant code), and the warning still being lit up on the dash when the airbags hold air just fine!

It's great info because I have seen way too many people spend $2000 on replacing the entire air suspension with conventional coil springs and shocks just because they already replaced air bags and still have suspension errors on their dash (and likely the compressor is the only issue left)

I was under the impression that 4 corner air suspension is a desirable option from the factory, I love mine especially with height control. The ride is extremely smooth as well. I hope your post helps people repair their air suspension and keep their system in their X5's!

Thanks for the welcome and reply, yes loads of owners over the years will have spent serious money on air suspension repairs or changed to coil overs but even the cost for this is huge on the audi so I imagine its the same for the X5!!

I'm keen to learn more about the X5 suspension so I will be browsing regularly

I recon any info shared between us is the best way to keep our car repairs and running costs down!!

Best regards

Andy

Sadly, I put the Kit in and now nothing works at all.Even the small yellow light in the switch is now off. Before I got the selfleveling system inactive, but the car was straight and runs perfect. Now the front is totaly down.

hi, if the lights in the panel are now off and the suspension does not work because if this you must use a diagnostic tool to remove the errors and then it will all come back to life,

this is because the compressor has been removed, clear the errors and it will work again.

let us know how you get on.

any questions please just ask.

Best regards

I'm not sure a brand, my experience is Audi models, but any hand held diag tool which can read the air suspension module and clear codes will do the trick.

if you search this forum for diagnostic tools and recommendations.
