The little X5 that could.....

Just wanted to share a pic or two of my '04 X5 3.0, pulling a 30' trailer, a top a 8900' elevation canyon ridge to go camping/mountain biking last week end. Not sure of the exact weight, but heavy with water and gear.

I was a bit nervous with that much weight, but with stabilizing bars and a relatively short distance, it was worth a shot. The X did great! I was so impressed. It climbed through the canyon with little drama and had to drop down the gears low just once up a pretty steep grade.

It makes a great tow vehicle. I don't recommend pulling a bloated load, or over capacity, but honestly, it did great. My rig is outfitted with a trailer brake controller which was essential.

Descending back down was no problem at all. Sway was minimal at best. The 5.09 "granny" first gear was still over kill. That confirmed my suspicion of it being too tall. You could pull the space shuttle with it I'm convinced.
