Manual steptronic upshift?
The up and downshifts via steptronic are notoriously slow...you may have raised the revs before upshift?

RB, you are killing me!!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() as far as the hard shifting... the auto tranny and the engine rely on the speed sensors and the rotational sensors in the engine (RPMs) and the tranny to match things up - they evaluate your rolling speed, the engine's RPM and the RPM of the tranny and then engage things accordingly, to avoid any mechanical or hydraulic damage... for example, years ago, in my E34, V8, 5 speed auto, i was going like 95 MPH in full auto, when i decided to drop the gear into the 4th and 3rd, in order to pull even faster... as i moved the gear lever to the desired number, nothing happened - the engine revs were still the same, and there was no downshift... car remained in the 5th gear, overdrive, as at that moment, if the gear were to change down, the engine's revs would have exceeded the safe threshold in the 4th, and definetely would have gone into the red for the 3rd gear... that being said - i am sure that you still can manage to fool the foolproof system and rip our tranny out of the car by just rowing the gears in the automatic and for sure, the manual tranny... grinding sound is definetely NOT good, that means that something did not agree with something else mechanically... You will have to accept the fact, that if you are going to be driving more aggressevely, or if you will be tracking the car, you will have much higher component failure rate, starting from the tires and going up the chain... as far as changing tranny fluid... we all agree, there is nothing lifetime in man-made toys... (unless it is the pyramids) but the unofficial idea hovering in the forums is that if the tranny fluid has not been changed and maintained before tranny hit something like 40-60K miles, than the fluid should be left alone, as the change brings about a tranny failure... do a search on the subject, there is a ton of reading material...
