Roof Rack Delete w/ PICTURES!!

Decided I was going to delete the racks after seeing my friend Mike's truck without them. Looks a lot better in my opinion.

SELLING/TRADING THESE WHEELS AS WELL: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-related-...tml#post943641

Here's what you need:

1) Razor/card to peel back the rubber seals on inside of the racks.
2) Torx T40 bit to take off the racks from roof (hiding under the rubber seals)
3) Socket/wrench to take off metal anchors (after removing racks)
4) Plugs: (Can get them at any hardware store, Lowe's etc..)
(x8) - 11/16 - Large holes
(x2) - 5/8 - Smaller holes

It's VERY easy and straight forward, you don't really need a step by step on how to do it, unless you don't know what a wrench looks like..

Enjoy:

Make sure to put a bit of silicone on those plugs for water tightness, and get that polisher out for the roof to get rid of the marks where the racks were!

Looks good man, I'm probably going to be doing this to mine as well, especially with the the sport package and lowered suspension the roof rack delete looks great, nice write up for everyone else!

Been there, done that. Yup they're very easy to removed.
IIRC, Tom (mrbmwx5) had the write-up a few years ago.

Not all cars (E53) in Europe have them, depended on how dealers or importers ordered them. I have an (originally) Italian sold X5 without the roof rails - I like it without. Technically the rack are the bars you add (left to right) to mount your skiis, carrier box, roof bike rack, etc.

I'm in the same minority with you. (Solidarity, baby.) So much so that I'm planning on repainting my rails a gloss black in an attempt to match the shadowline trim. To me, an X just looks kind of naked without them.

It's a super easy mod that can really change the proportional appearance of the X. That being said , IMO, its a mod that looks out of place if done on a vehicle that hasn't been lowered.

It's all just personal pref anyway!
