Need some help with bluetooth

Hey guys, i found in between the car books a paper with the bluetooth passkey code. I thought my car didn't come with bluetooth, especially since I don't have the pairing button in the center console.

Is there another way to pair it? How can I find out if I do have the bluetooth module installed or not?

I did some research online and the only articles I found were the ones where the pairing was done with the pair button in the center console. I also looked through the car "telephone" book but didn't see anything about bluetooth.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Use this VIN decoder - it will tell you if your car has a bluetooth... depending on the year of the car, you might not have a pairing button. on later model years the process for pairing is different...
here is the VIN decoder Link

what year/model your car is? different years equipped with different type modules... other than checking your as-built sheet (always nice to have that info handy), pop the left cover in the trunk, where the nav and/or cd changer would be... if you have a module mounted at an angle, then you might have TCU or a ULF... check to see if you have that module, then we will take it from there

oh, and put a signature of some sort, so we don't ask stupid questions, like what you drive... of course you drive a bimmer... lol.. probably an X... could be X3 or one of the old or new 5s... but it is nice to know what you have...

Hey Terminator, so I did some "due diligence" . I will also add the signature in just a bit.
I do have a module in the driver's side trunk area. It's installed at an angle, but I cannot see the label on it. I can only see a small section of it.
I will have to take the trunk plastics out to see the rest of the module.
I also checked on the option list as "ukcran" suggested and I see the following:
S639A KOMPLETTVORB. HANDY USA/CDN Preparation f mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN
That was the only phone "option" I can see on the list.

I tried pairing the car per the instructions in "2006 4.8is bluetooth ready" thread but the phone cannot find the car. I don't have the pairing button in the arm rest and in the instructions on that thread it doesn't say anything about pressing the "talk" button while pairing it. Does anyone know when the button should be pressed in the pairing process?
Thanks.

You should be able to turn on Bluetooth on your phone, then select "Search for Devices". Press the pairing button then. I would guess you need to make sure your car is on so the Bluetooth device has power, depending on how it was hooked up.

If you don't see an available device, it could be the car may not have bluetooth.

Please do create a signature...it helps us to help you better...it supplies us with enough information to tailor our answers/suggestions etc specficially for your model...it also helps us if we need to look up information or diagrams to answer your questions. There are multiple models, engins, transmissions, and other changes that occur during the production run from 1999-2006.

For instance, your build date would have helped us know specifically how your X5 is equipped for Bluetooth. Especially if it was built after 10/2004.

If you have the options listed below...you don't need the "pairing button" in the center console. You can use the "talking head" button on the steering wheel:

Hint: KL R & KL 15 = ignition position 1 & position 2

Hey Q. The car was built 06/04. When do you actually press the "talking Head" on the steering wheel when you follow the above directions? I'm looking at the instructions 1 - 5 but don't see when to press the button.

Sorry about the signature. It was just added.

In the instructions above (10/04 build date-up)...you don't have to press the talking head button.

As written, the X5 is automatically in pairing mode for the first 2 minutes of turning the igntion to position 1 or 2 (don't start the car).

At the same time, have your phone prepared to search for BT devices...if your X5's is compatible...it will appear on your phone's list as " BMW _ _ _ _ _ " (BMW + the last 5 digits of your X5's VIN).

The steering wheel's "talking head" button is how you use Voice Recognition when your phone has been paired to the X5. Sorry for any previous confusion.

BTW, when you look down your option list...does it show SA639 option? Your build date puts you on the "cusp"...you may or may not have everything needed.

Q, my car was built 06/04.
Do you by any chance know if the pairing instructions are different for cars prior to 10/04?
