As long as you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag you don't reconnect the battery until the airbag is reinstalled you should be fine. The release springs are a little hard to find but a fairly long screwdriver at a bit less then 90 degrees to the steering wheel on each side will do the trick. Be sure to install the airbag prior to hooking up the battery as if you don't the airbag warning light will come on and you will need the proper tool to clear it.
