EDITED: I've added more pics from the finalization of the trim wrapping.
How do you get the center console parts out? I have painted my door trim with Plastidip Antracite and it looks awesome so far.
Its like a dark gray metallic. But the console
In my E46 you just popped the gear shift surround off and go from there.
Mine in my X5 wont budge. Am I not pulling hard enough or is that the wrong way to get them off??

Follow the DIY on the how to's on the top of the forum to a T. I did and had not a single issue, it's daunting at first but just take your time and only remove the screws you need to remove to get it out.

It can be an all day job but worth it.

I never took the console out before, but followed the DIY, it took me about 1.5 hours to take it out while taking my time. There are like 4-5 plugs, and about 13-14 screws to remove if I recall correct. Once you get it out its just a bunch of torx screws.

I got rid of Light Poplar in favor of Titan Silver (OE) trims, was well worth the work, no issues on reinstall of the console either.

Did you change the steering wheel cover also? Airbags scare me.

As long as you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag you don't reconnect the battery until the airbag is reinstalled you should be fine. The release springs are a little hard to find but a fairly long screwdriver at a bit less then 90 degrees to the steering wheel on each side will do the trick. Be sure to install the airbag prior to hooking up the battery as if you don't the airbag warning light will come on and you will need the proper tool to clear it.

I have attached a DIY that may be helpful. Note--the angle is 90 degrees. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ions-pics.html

I had to take the airbag out when I got my ///M3 inspired steering wheel (recovered by a seller in Germany) and had to swap it in. I actually didn't disconnect the battery, just the fuses for the airbag (fuse 41 I think?) Everything went fine.

Thanks. I'll try it as soon as I get a weekend off.
