Are you sure you have a ballast problem? I installed the newly released XB35 D2S Morimoto bulbs recently and actually had a problem with them firing up, turns out my Hella Gen 3 ballast does NOT like the Morimoto bulbs. I replaced with a brand new pair of Philips 85122 bulbs ($75 shipped) and the bulbs fire up flawlessly. Moral of the story, and I have to thank X5SND for this one: On other cars with different ballasts the Morimotos might be fine replacements, but for our Hella ballasts, based on my findings, I would stick to genuine Philips/Osram bulbs. Your findings may vary.

Yes, I am pretty sure it is the ballast. I switched the good bulb and igniter from the side not working with the side that is working. Both bulb and igniter worked on the good side and not on the bad side.

Guys I have a 2006 4.8is with stock xenons and need to replace the lowbeam bulbs. I found this on realoem:
D2-S 35W BMW part#: 63217160806 However I wanted to know if I can get a brighter 6000K bulb that will work on my car. |

6000k is A DIMMER BULB than what came on your car. If you want to install a bulb that is DIMMER and puts out less light, then yes, D2S is the size, help yourself.

RB, pardon my ignorance. some reason I thought 6K would be brighter. any particular bulb do you reccommend that is brighter than stock? I see from this thread that the Morimoto buls had issues.
Thanks for your help. |

No sweat, its just a pet peeve of mine that most people think higher K is brighter, 4300k is brightest as most of us know. No worries!
Yes the Morimoto bulbs have had issues on our stock Hella ballasts (I have had issues myself), so I would recommend an OEM bulb, Philips, Osram, GE come to mind, how much do you want to spend? I can recommend bulbs from $70 to $180: The Philips 85122 bulbs can be found here, I bought mine from this seller and they are 100% genuine perfect: Philips D2S (85122) - HIDbulbsRus (70 shipped for a pair) He also sells GE Xensation bulbs, the wholesale name is Vogt, same price as Philips and same quality more or less, you'll see them on the website. If you want anything brighter than a Philips, Osram, or GE factory 4300k bulb, you'd have to step up to the Osram 66240 SVS, claims about 10% more lumens than a stock bulb, but at $185 for the pair, its not cheap! http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=257 (Osram SVS, 185 shipped for a pair) My advice? Just get a set of GE or Philips bulbs from the link I used above, I don't think the extra couple hundred lumens is worth 115 bucks extra, fresh bulbs are fresh bulbs and I know when I installed my new 85122's this summer I really appreciated the extra output a new set of bulbs can bring.

Which bulb is the DRL on the facelift X5's? (please put your car info in your signature too it makes it easier for us) Most of us have the DRL coded off, unless are you talking about the angel eye bulbs? I would not run any "whiter" bulb that is a DRL, since they are on all the time at reduced voltage its bad for any bulb, I would just code the DRL off (I'm guessing its the inner high beam that is DRL?)
The angel eyes are H8 bulbs, and you can get LED versions off ebay for about 50 bucks, the optics of the rings don't allow for additional brightness, but you can get a whiter look. For your fogs, you have reflector fogs so I would go with the H11 Hoen Xenonmatch bulbs, I used them for years on my Volkswagens and never blew out a bulb (I wipe them down with alcohol prior to install) www.hoen-usa.com trust me, you WILL see a difference from the fresh Philips bulbs, let me know how you like them!
