Engine maintance

Hey guys i need some help with engine maintenance. Recently i have changed park plugs, air intakes and fuel filter but it still doesn't seem that my engine runs to its full potential. I was thinking about for example checking for vacum leaks and checking the valve cover gaskets. Is there somthing else you guys would recommend to look at? i was thinking about maybe like the vanos? or something else?

Checking for vacuum leaks is a good idea. Use a can of brake cleaner. In an open area with some thing to put a fire out, just in case, spray the brake cleaner on a cold running engine wherever their are potential vacuum leaks. If there is a vacuum leak the spray will cause the engine idle to increase. Do this at you own risk but that is the way I check for vacuum leaks.

Start with the basic, do a compression test to see that all the cylinders are similar. No use throwing parts at it if the rings are worn. Any other symptoms like extended crank when the engine is cold? When was the last time the filters were changed? When was the last service done on the truck? How many mileage do you have on the truck?

so, when you are at a standstill, and you need to accelerate fast, you press the pedal down hard, and the truck hesitates, the RPMs are not increasing with the pedal, the engine feels as if it stalling, and then, all of a sudden, the RPMs pick up real fast, the car lurches forward and you pick up the speed real fast. or, you are not picking up the speed real fast, the RPMs do not increase real fast, but increase slowly, and the steadily picks up the speed...

Emin, when you provide very laconic, telegraphic description of your issue, you get very BROAD answers that will send you on wild geese chase.

please try the take off sequence, document the behaviour of the car, and then tell us exactly what happens...

Follow the thread I started:

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...tml#post945024

I was getting codes, but in the end, it was the fuel pump failing. Start with what they recommend first, checking vacuum leaks, DISA valves, MAF sensor, and continue until you have found the problem. Good Luck!
