Engine for my 1970 Firebird finally got its run on the dyno last week. Started on the second tap and idled with a nice soothing rumble at 750 RPM. Unfortunately, Reher-Morrison didn't have a load program for their dyno that was very compatible with the operating characteristics of a Quadrajet carburetor (mechanical secondaries with air velocity controlled air valve operating the metering rods). It kept bringing the load in before the air valve was open enough to get into the power range on the metering rods.
Still managed to see 443 lb ft of torque at 3800 RPM and 383 HP at 5400 RPM. But the two telltales of actual potential were 246 HP on the primaries alone and pull all the way to 6200 RPM. That's at Reher-Morrison Racing Engines in Arlington Texas. The dyno program printed out 383 hp at 5400 rpm but the technician was sure there's another 75 horses available with some carb tweaking and a better loading curve .
