Dead Battery Dash Fan question

I was part of another dying battery thread but thought I would start this because I wonder if I found my issue. My X5 had dead battery again today for the 5th time so I went and bought a new battery. It starts like a dream with the new battery. I backed it in the garage after a drive and left the hood up. I just went out and its been about 2 hours and I can hear a fan in the dash kicking on and off every so often (very faint). Could that be what is running my battery down. The park light goes out after 16 minutes so I thought it was going to sleep but the fan still seems to spin. Is there a reason for it? I can watch the voltage with my meter and it drops about 7 hundredths while the fan runs for about 5 seconds. Does anyone have an idea what it is running for? Thanks!

Edit I just tried a few more searches and it looks like a possible hvac module issue. I will research that tomorrow after i get home from work. Sorry for cluttering posts!

FSR(also known as hedgehog for its appearance) is your final stage resistor and is located behind the fan you are hearing. Its a known culprit for discharging your battery. It overheats and stays on ,even wheh the car has gone in sleep mode.Your car being a 2002 ,you will have the old design FSR with few thick spikes and Bmw has subsequently replaced with another part ,with more thin spikes, which is more efficient in dispersing heat.
There are various threads on this subject,,this is one http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...r-fix-diy.html

I was just reading up on the FSU and I see that that could very well be my issue. It also seems the warmer out it is the more likely we are to have a dead battery in the car. Guess I'll find a place to order one from and spend some more quality time with the X5. Thanks again guys!!!

I assume this will work!!

BMW E53 X5 M62 4.4L > Climate Control > ES#1832895 Blower Motor Resistor - 64116920365

Perfect! Thanks again! I just ordered one. I sure hope this brings my issue to an end. My wife is almost to the point of wanting to get rid of the X5 already. Says it's not reliable enough. I'll show her with a rejuvenated A/C fan lmao!!!

UPS showed up today with my new FSR! 2 hours later my wife calls me to say that the A/C doesn't work at all! So I sneak home from work and replace the FSR (25 minutes) and the A/C is working like it never has before! Now that I have done that I am keeping my fingers crossed the dead battery issue goes away as well. Thanks again for all your help!!
