Rear wiper motor removal DIY somewhere ?
Well I will only admit this to my dear XOutpost friends. I actually backed the car into the garage with the top hatch OPEN !! Yes, I know. Dunce cap for ed. ![]() OK. Now what actually hit the top of the garage was the bottom of the rear wiper. It still runs but doesn't come to rest flat and seems very "wobbly" in place. Having searched on here and found several images, I am going to guess that the threaded rod that goes from the motor to the arm is bent slightly. Therefore I suspect I will likely have to replace the motor and I cannot figure out where the trim catches are to get to the 3 bolts that seem to hold it in place. Please be gentle with me. I already have an embarrassing dent in the aluminum garage trim I have to try to minimize - right, like I work at "Dent Wizard"...not. Thank you in advance ! ed in NJ |

The motor assy is held to the hatch by plastic tabs. They break off just from age. Your description is exactly what it's like when they break.
Pop off the plastic cover inside the hatch and see. It's very simple mounting. You can search for my fix, but that's not really diy; for most folks, it's a new assy for around $200. |

New assembly closer to $300 from what I can see though I just sent a note to someone who posted that they had an "extra" so maybe I'll get lucky. Of course, if you feel like practicing some more, I'll gladly take one off your hands........ |

Maybe cause it's dark out at 1AM, but I can't find the trim clips to pop to get to the motor assembly... Can I phone a friend please ?

Remove the interior lights (pop off clear lens on each). Remove screws, one in each of the lights.
as I recall it just pops off after that (doesn't just fall off; you gotta work the clips out) I'll take mine off again in the morning and post a couple pics. |

Here are a coupla pictures I just took.
Pop out the courtesy lights, and remove 4 screws. Then carefully (so not to crack older plastic) work your way around and free some of the clips. Unplug the lights and feed the connector through the access so it won't interfere with removing the panel. Once it's loose and you have some wiggle room, note that the side trim clips into the back panel piece. (See pics). Once those are freed, you can finish freeing the panel and check out your wiper. ![]() ![]() ![]() And now yer cookin' with gas......... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Took out the 4 Philips head screws - two obvious and two hidden behind the courtesy lights (thank you Civdiv99) was able to pop off the bottom and confirm that in fact the motor was broken at the brackets. That's as far as I got today. I now have ordered the part, and once it arrives I can do a serious write up with pix. I took a couple today, but it's only the lights out and the screws. I was not able to figure out how to pull out the clips away from side pieces that Civdic99 shows.... Maybe it's cause it got late in the day, but it wasn't obvious. The next challenge seems to be removing the wiper blade assembly from the base. I know it pulls off, but I don't have any tools to help so I may need to get "medieval" on it... Stay tuned and thanks for the support... ed in NJ |
