Installing Time-Sert in oil pan pictorial

So last week I finally got around to replacing a leaking radiator, replacing a blown FSR, and replacing the driver door window regulator. After that, I decided to change the oil (I have only put 300 miles on the truck since getting it back in March due to the above issues) so this was the first oil change I have done.

Anyways, when I put the plug in after draining the old oil, I did notice it was stripped and applied just enough torque to keep it in tight. Well, it was leaking pretty bad after driving it for a day, so I decided this was yet another item that needed fixing. When I first got the truck, I replaced the valve cover gaskets (talk about a royal pain!), as they were both leaking.

Taking off the stiffening plate. I just did this last week when replacing the radiator. I did get 6 news bolts when I did this last week. I'm thinking I can get away with reusing them again. The stand helps holding it when removing the last few bolts.

Even with the plate off, there is not really enough room to properly drill out the hole and keeping the bit square with it



So off comes the oil pan cover

Gasket is in perfect condition. I think it is metal. I wonder if I can just clean it up good and reuse?

Shot of the whole underside of the truck before I got started. Looking pretty good for 134k miles I think.



Need to stop by the dealer tomorrow for a new drain plug and filter and price a new oil pan gasket. It they have it in stock and the price is right, I guess I'll replace it.

It was actually very easy to drop the oil pan. It dropped by itself once all the bolts were loosened.
