E53. New owner. Couple questions

What does "tv". And "av in/out " buttons do on back of centre console ?

Also on the centre console between 2 front seats I have a funny shape tray above the cup holders. Why is it shaped like this? (Scissor shape). .???

Also does the 2005 x5 have day running lights or is it just "a" auto lights which turn on as it gets dark /go through a tunnel etc

the TV button allows you to change the TV channel up one step at a time. go to Television option from main menu, have the TV on... press TV button - channel should go up one channel - assuming that you have more than one active channel on air...

A/V in an out are noy buttons - the take a 3.5 mm A/V jack...

OUT will give you a signal of whatever TV channel is showing at the moment

IN will let you feed any video/audio signal into main nav screen - select TV from main menu, then select AV from channels list.

funny shape tray? picture?

DRLs are programmable feature - you have to program it ON or OFF

So with av in can I use eg iPod video etc and watch movies on 16:9 screen? Is it stereo or mono?

I can looking at getting BMW scanner 1.4 so if I enable dlr how would that work with "auto" light switch ? Would angle rings always be on then when dark the sensor turn on main headlamp ?

On the facelift e53 X5 with the standard bi-xenon headlight set-up...when DRLs (daytime running lights) are initiated...the high beam bulbs are illuminated at lower wattage (no angel eyes). If you have the light switch set to AUTO...when ambient light levels get low enough, the low beam & angel eyes will turn on as normal.

You can see what happens in the video below...the DRLS are initiated when the vehicle is turned on, the high beams illuminate at lower wattage...when the light sensor is covered with paper to simulate darkened light levels...you see that the "AUTO" light feature turns off the DRLs and illuminates the low beams & angel eyes rings:

The AUTO headlight operation is explained below...see the text on the RIGHT side:
