Window Problems...
Two days ago, my passenger side window got stuck fully rolled down. For a little while now, it had been operating with a clunk - which I should have known better than to ignore it. I have done a search of the site and found a lot of very useful information about removing the door panel, replacing the regulator, and most valuable - replacing the window clips. I can only hope that my case is just the clips and not the regulator. The motor works and the window comes up just a smidgen when you operate the switch. I will record what I find and also the end result / solution. I guess it had something had to come up eventually......

It will be the clips. Happened to me a while ago and the clips were knackered. Beats me why such a pivotel part is made from cheap plastic.

Yes. I have had the driver side front and the passenger side rear window regulators give me trouble. It was the clips on the front and the actual cable broke on the rear.

These issues are normal wear and tear on our X. Good thing they're documented on this board.

Well..... I am happy to say that I officially completed my 2nd DIY Project on the X. I was able to fix the errant window.... after spending $90 odd. I bought 4 replacement window clips, a bunch of the door panel tabs and had to replace the vapour / sound barrier.
Thank you VERY MUCH to this site and all the information I was able to get to fix this. Turns out it was the rear clip that was broken. I was able to replace fairly easily. Window is now back in working order. If anyone needs a replacement clip, I would happy to send it out to you. My way of saying thank you to the site. Also, if you are No. Cal and need help with this kind of issue - I am available. CHEERS! |

why did it cost $90? The clips and tabs are only a few dollars?

I would like to know the number of clip/regulator replacements people have had to do. Maybe a trophy can be awarded! My history includes 5 in my wife's 2001 325i, thankfully all under warranty; 3 in my 2002 X5, not under warranty; and 2 in my wife's 2004 325i, with one under warranty. I can only think the heat we experience in the Dallas/Fort Worth area contributes to the failure rate.

Hmmm.... if I billed myself for labour, it would run in the hundreds. I might just stick the Alpinas on - just trying to avoid the cost of tyres and I am not sure the current tyres are the right size.

The new vapour barrier cost $50 plus I bought a bunch of door panel tabs as I know they break very easily. Plus tax and all, it was right around $90 - which, all things considered was still a deal to me. |
