When buying ANY vehicle with 180k miles PPI and AAA are your best friends. I have extend range towing AAA coverage on my 170 k mile '03 4.4, I would not give a 2nd thought to hooking up a 6k lb trailer and going cross country with it.

bizarre is a nice way to put it. Why is because my truck was going downhill fast, needed a car, cousin owns 3 bmws and loves them, the price was in my budget, it looks like a sexy version of the Chevy S10 blazer, and it was shinny

A used X, with nearly 180k miles, is a huge freakin leap. While there are a dozen posters on the Board, with that mileage or more, most are Orig owners, and much of the maintenance and repair/replacement has been kept up with. 'They' know 'their car'...

Our '01 has a piddling 88k miles, but have had it since new, and I know/trust the sumbitch.

Classic on the redneck/don't give a crap tow driver pulling up and dragging your car, 5 mins after you walk away. Maybe you can pound their biz a bit, but I suspect not, in Texas. I wish you some resolve.
GL, mD
my x now has 129k had 119k when I bought it.
it was the silverado I got rid of that had 178k on it

by the time I get rid of this x I will know every inch, bolt, and nut on it.

currently insurance is going after tow company as well as I'm looking for a lawyer. the cops on scene said he was "more pissed then I was the he smashed my x"

Sorry about confusing rambles, grammar, punctuation. dyslexia and stress are getting the better of my brain. I really do try to proof read what I type but it seems my mind is playing tricks with me.

"If you're going through hell, keep going"

You best course of action might be to write a country song from this saga--and buy a new one from the proceeds.

LOL I can't carry a tune with a bucket and the help of 2 friends.

besides I'm the type of guy I wouldn't buy a new one I would fix this one maybe buy a beater for when it breaks down again. and give the rest of the "proceeds" to charity

also this kind of stuff builds character

If the troubles and problems I have in my life can help anyone feel better about their life. Then I'm all good!

X5's will need a fair share of maintenance through its life, you just seem to have had it all come at once, but hey, you wont have to worry after its all been fixed. look at it from a positive point of view.

? Are you one of the voices in my head? I been saying that to myself. Some of my coworkers been laughing ever since it broke the first time. That's what I told them.

They laugh and say I should have bought a Ford. I say no way when I'm done I'll have an 03 x5 with all new everything. Besides it's broke now ain't that the same as a Ford?

That usually shuts them up. The ones that don't try to pull that whole but its so expensive to fix. My reply is the radiator was $150 whats the radiator in your Ford cost? Then they get all mad and storm off.
