Need help with computer screen message, please.

When I started my X today the computer screen reads: Loading of software required please insert suitable cd-rom.

It is not the message that comes up when there is nav disc trouble or one I have ever seen.

Nav unit will eject disc and red light is normal. Radio works, control buttons seem to work but nothing on the screen other than the message. Will not pull up menu or can't see it if it is. I have tried leaving the Xi off for an hour and turning it back on--no change. I have tried removing the nav disc and putting it back --no change. I disconnected the nav unit and plugged it back in--no change.

The only potential cause I can think of is yesterday I hooked the X up to the INPA program for the first time. Perhaps foolishly, I tried a bunch of stuff to see what happened. I didn't notice if the message was there then.

Could I have done something to kill or remove the computer software?

If I erased the software it is wants is it a-- must be done by dealer thing-- or is there a DIY solution?

Please don't bombard me with big strange words--I need the pea brain solution.

in the INPA you have logged into the Nav computer and probably clicked on the reset errors, or reset something, or load new software... so, what you need is the OE disk with the v32 firmware, the one is dealers used to sell for $10-15... while in INPA, you can tell the nav to load specific language from the disk, otherwise it will load the default language pack for your car's LAND option... in mine, i somehow got Dutch, and then got stuck with english for UK.. lol...

so... you need the firmware disk...

Thank you very much!

I upgraded to a mk4 and it came with European voice options. I have become very fond of my English bird and her instructions like ---enter the motorway

mine also says for the bluetooth: "the number is being dialed", and before she used to say "dialing"... the girl is very formal... the car is now like a wolf in a tuxedo... at Her Majesty's Service... lol...
