Some pictures

This was a pita little job too. I took some pictures of the three parts that make up the assembly and what it looks like going in. You need to get the light snapped to the clear ring, plugged in and then in the hole. But you also need the socket plugged in too. Once the ring is in, you shove the socket in and it snaps in place. You'll need to get the ashtray and the shift cover off to get your fingers on the three connectors to feed them up through the opening. Prepare to curse a few times throughout the exercise. Ignore the filth in the pictures. I haven't had a chance to really scrub this thing down since I got it. It needs a good bath and leather treatment.

NP. I'll add that tray to the list. I did a VIN search through that russian site and mine had the smoker's option. It also had wood trim, which it currently does not. Someone spent a pretty penny changing the interior and making it look like a 4.8. I don't mind it at all

Holy hell. I even been struggling with this for an hour now lol. It used to be that I could just insert a finger into the socket and pull it out. Now the whole assembly comes out about 1/4inch and that's it. Ahh getting so frustrated. I want to finish this project! Just can't seem to get the damn she'll out by itself!

The clear shell has little tabs that lock the metal shell in place and in the console
I just broke mine with a needle nose pliers to allow the removal.
Once removed you can see how it is assembled to reinstall it. You will need a new clear shell.

I have three extra. If you need one

I have to do mine this weekend. The ring tab is broken and the lighter housing comes out about an inch but that's it. I have to "break the ring" off the lighter housing in order to get the housing out of the console hole and then disconnect the light module and the wires from the housing??

Or should I just take it to the dealer?

I'd say break it to get it out, get new parts and you'll see how it goes back in. It would be pricey at dealer.

I already have the ring, it sounds like pure aggravation to get this thing out.

$377 at the dealer for the entire Lighter Socket Assembly and labor

I'm having the same problem with the socket pulling out, but on the rear cigarette lighter. I can't find it on the parts list - does anyone know if it uses the same plastic trim ring as the front (51168223050)?
