Trans problem

Pulled into the gas station today and heard a weird noise underneath the car. I put the car in park and it began to roll. I put the car in drive, hit the gas and nothing happened, the car just rolled back. I put it in park and can hear a noise underneath. Is my tranny gone or tranfer case? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Transfer Case or front driveshaft spline stripped.

I assume it was the transfer case. I had my girl put it in drive and I can see the driveshaft spinning. So should I replace the transfer case and driveshaft?

Check the CV joints (inner and outer) on the end of the vehicle that you see the driveshaft spinning, it those are intact you have diff ring/pinion failure. That's unlikely, are you SURE the shaft is spinning or is the flange on the TC spinning while the driveshaft is still?

Its the front driveshaft that is spinning, coming from the trans to the tc. It spins in drive and stops when putting it in park.

CV Joints. Neither driveshaft will spin if the splines are worn.

I think i found the problem, I went underneath the car and look around the axel and shook them around. Shook the driverside nice and tite, went to the passenger side and the axel was loose and wobbley, stuck my hands in between the trans and axel and sure enough there was a gap and some fluid. I'll have to get a new axel and get that replaced.

You mean from the TC to the front diff, there's no shaft between the trans and tc.
