USB/ipod connector?

Hey guys, I did a search and didn't seem to find what I was looking for so here goes

In the x5 I got there is an ipod cable that's in the glove box, it works and every thing but im not an apple fan nore do I like using iTunes to download music to so called ipod.

Is the ipod cable I have in the x5 a kit of some sort? the head unit is the stock one with the x5 with no sub in the back or anything, can I remove the head unit and take the ipod cable out and put a standard cable in there to work with Samsung phones or any type of mp3?

Id recommend the USA-Spec brand usb/auxiliary adapter which gives u three options for connecting things and it is small and fits in trunk super easy

You may have one of the aftermarket kits that add features like USB, bluetooth, sat radio. I have seen threads here where aux lines have been installed. I installed the Audiovox media-bridge more have installed though I think the Grom kit is more popular.

I am not aware of a kit that is exclusive Mac based. Trace the cable and see where it goes. I wouldn't be surprised if it connected to a USB line though some have the knowledge to put something together on their own.

depending on a model year and option, you might have a bmw ipod wiring kit installed. Like the one real oem lists RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Accessories and retrofittings
Or it could be one of the aftermarket kits... some aftermarket kits allow you to connect Android devices (like Grom) and some only work with Apple products...

You can, but the ipod connector would not be listed as it was an addon and is part of the accessories that someone could purchase after buying a car...
if you want to know what options your car came with - you can use this site - no need to go to a dealer
