Roof-Mounted Lights
I'm interested in installing roof-mounted lights to the X5. I'm looking at having four Hella lamps pointed forward. I do a lot of driving in the woods and think this would be the best solution (not to mention I think it wouldn't look too bad). My question is what would be the best route to take in terms of wiring? Drill or tuck? Any tips or suggestions on which lights or what bar to use would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

It's been discontinued for a while now. That was what I wanted too because it allows you to keep the functionality of the roof rack.

Do you have the xenon HIDs as the low beam lights?
On mine the HIDs + highbeams are more than enough on pitch black, new moon nights. I can see road maybe 2-300 feet ahead. Going to follow this topic, I have a similar interest.

I do have xenon. What I'm looking to do is mount four up front and two (maybe) in the back. In the front, the left most light will be aimed left and the right most light to be aimed left so I have a much much wider lighting angle. I do also take the X5 rock crawling once and a while when the weather is good.

You mean pebble-crawling right? Anything larger than 6 inches wide and you'll start tearing out all that nice plastic trim.

Trim really isn't important because I got it for a steal and it is my beater. I've had it up some pretty decent inclines without issue at all.

If you want the BMW factory set-up, they can do a "dead parts search" to see if any dealer still has them. US searches are limited to the US only, so if nothing comes up - try a Canadian dealer.
In Europe, it's similar - you can only search your country and BMW AG master warehouses. |

I actually work at Tischer BMW (Getbmwparts.com) and the only thing I was able to source is the bracket for the front bumper mounted driving lights. Which sucks because I wanted tho use too lol
