idrew - you don't mention what year your X5 and engine, but if it's an E53 there is little to change. Your profile shows 2001 4.4i, correct?
Your problem is with the left rear wheel. I looked under my car (2002 X5 3.0 diesel with rear air suspension). There is a harness that plugs into the blue connector (car harness) that goes to two electric input areas on the control arm: ABS wheel sensor & brake pad wear sensor. RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i REAR AXLE SUPPORT/WHEEL SUSPENSION You'll need this harness and likely a new brake pad wear sensor (I think this is on the LR caliper rather than RR caliper). You're car also has a harness that plugs into the rear suspension height sensor (which might have been damaged). I believe the plastic pipe (towards the trailing part of the wheel rather than leading edge) is the differential vent pipe. RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Final drive, ventilation This photo should help you overall. BMW E53 X5 4.8is Rear N/S Passenger Side Hub and Driveshaft 4.6 4.4 3.0 | eBay I'd look for a dead X5 at a local yard and take the harness and parts that you need. You might (still) need to clear fault codes after sorting out the wiring. |
