Op's X may or may not fall into that timeframe. Dealer should be able to check vin number to see if the work was ever done. Intermediate levers should be eliminated but that is not a sure thing solution. The symptoms go well beyond a slight irritation when the engine is cold. Is Canada already into cold weather?
This may be of help with challenging the PPI or as stand alone point of contention. If the go ahead is based on hoping there will be some help from BMW Canada it would be much better to have that commitment before getting the work done.

I noted this to the SM, even read it to him- No service bulletin with that number (I searched it myself with similar result):

BMW TSB - Information About BMW Technical Service Bulletins | AutoMD

We discussed it in some detail, and I'm not exactly sure where I would stand in the realm of BMW with it anyway- However if it did/does exist and Maranello BMW did not cover this item then……

I've had a somewhat similar incident with MB Canada over my parents 2007 S550 (for background on this, while we did not buy the car (used, MB PPI in Toronto) from the dealer in Kingston (Van Herpt MB) we had been a client for 25+ years with all the MB's being serviced there) where a check engine light resulted in a timing chain sprocket failure which required the engine to be removed from the car (remarkably the dealer already had a 'kit' available from MB Canada for the repair)- anyway, long story short, almost 6K later the dealer came to the party on 2( yes, two) hours of the 31 hours of labor, and MB provided the 'kit' free of charge. I relate this incident because I don't really expect anything from the dealer, and in the end I need to get the X fixed.

I should add that I also related the story about the MB because I like to take any and all opportunities to mention what shitty customer care Van Herpt Motors, Mercedes Benz Dealer, Kingston Ontario, Canada deals out to customers along with Mercedes Benz Canada, represented by their regional manager, service. Have a nice day assholes.

I gave you the wrong number. The following link addresses intermediate levers:

No, I hadn't read the actual bulletin when I initially made reference to it. I was aware of it from another forum and somehow thought the dates were 2/5 to 4/6. I had it partially a** backwards when I first mentioned it--oopsie.

Do you get the feeling he is getting shafted by those mechanics.

Respectfully, I am very skeptical if a diagnosis from a dealer or an Indy does not have a clear, definitive cause or they even hint the cause could be something beyond what they will initially repair. Because of past experience I conclude that is a masked promise the repair will end up costing a lot more than the low cost estimate. Applying that to this thread would mean OP will be the second instance where the heads are also bad. I sincerely hope that is not the case.

I have had it evolve to something even worse. I was away so I told my daughter to take her 944 to an Indy shop, that had a very good reputation, to see why it was losing coolant. They said they it was the head gasket but if it got very hot the head could be warped. I authorized them to pull the head.

After that suck cost in the disassembly and the 944 disabled, they said not only was the head warped but the block was damaged so she needed a new engine. They expected I would replace the engine as they gave me the cost of repair, a used and new engine. They knew we had an emotional attachment to the car. My daughter loved it since she was knee high. I had saved it for her.

It just didn't smell right, and my daughter is a motor head so she wouldn't let it get that hot. Without saying anything, had a wrecker pick up the pieces. I checked the head and the block myself--they were fine. I got a new head gasket and put it back together. My daughter has been running the wheels off it for two years without any problems.

Yea pancho, I am not sure you want to proceed with these guys. Something is not sitting well with me, especially since your car is out of the levers TSB date range, by over half a year.
