ZeGerman,

That's amazing. That X5 is destroyed! Would like to see more pictures if you have them.

"Pop" from wheels deflating from road debris and I presume the car lost control because of this?

Good to hear your wife is safe OP, and that you got an even better X to replace it!

OMG...what a great survival story...glad that your wife was able to walk away physically unscathed. And thanks for sharing this story.

Ditto...if you have more pics please share them...even if they are from the scrap yard. Still can't get over the fact she walked away from that...gratefully...she did.

Glad she was fine. Such a re-assuring story.
Not just X5, we had some amazing stories on E39 boards too

Thank God, your wife is OK!!!

You mentioned it was road debris that popped two tires... I had several high speed blow-outs, all of them in factory low-profile rims, all of them on the rear... Only single tire blow-out at each time - the cars behaved as if there were nothing at all, just a bit harder to move...

The E39 528i sounded as if there was a helicopter trying to land on our roof, i was going at about 55MPH...

The E53 4.6iS was going about 80-85 MPH when the rear tire popped on the PanAmerican highway in Panama, and I only pulled over because wife insisted that I popped the tire... sure enough, rear left was shredded...

I never popped two tires at the same time, but i suspect, the car went off road because TWO tires were popped, or, because the front tire got flat...

It is nice to know that the X behaved as designed and protected your wife... She hopefully will like the 4.8iS even more...

Glad to hear there were no injuries to your wife or to bystanders. It's hard to believe anyone got out of that car if you just looked at the picture.

Our X5 saved my wife, daughter and mother-in-law in an accident as well a few years ago. Big pick-up teed the passenger rear quarter in an intersection. The X5 took the hit and spun into a ditch but didn't flip. No injuries. RCMP on the scene commented that they've seen many similar accidents that ended in tragedy and that it was the X5 that saved them.

I've learned to be a little more tolerant of the nit-picky problems we all have with the X5 because it comes through when it really counts.
